That's right, this year we are starting our new tradition of celebrating Christmas on New Year's Eve. Why well those that have children will understand this....EXTENDED FAMILY DEMANDS! Two of the boys have been invited to spend Christmas with their darling's family so we decided this was a good time to start this new tradition. Those Christmas holiday heartaches as well as headaches are still etched in my brain. When the boys were little I always said I would not be one of those mothers/mother-in-laws that had to have her family all together on Christmas Eve / Day in her house. I am going to be one of those if I want to see them I will go to their house. So hubby and I decided a long time ago that we would wait and celebrate Christmas New Year's Eve. The kids would be invited to our home I will serve them a no traditional Christmas dinner (no turkey or ham) and we would open presents. We would then ring in the New Year together with fire works and toast. The next morning we would have a brunch and if they had to they could travel home or stay around for the traditional black-eye peas and ham hock. This will also allow for the hoopla of the commercialism to blow over and we can enjoy our Christmas celebration and focus on the real reason for the season. Not only that but I get to ring in the new year with my family all together...see there is a plan behind the madness of my scheme

Yeah, we have had to do some of the same in recent years.
And, your reasons are good, valid, and sound.
Still, even though you have to do this ...... and We have to do this ....... I don't like it.
Call me a dinosaur or a traditionalist, I still long for the old family Christmases we had when I was young ......... when families didn't spread out quite so much.
Hey, if I wanted Change and Progress, I'd have voted for the One, lol.

That is true I long for those Christmas also. But since our oldest son and youngest son are both military I will take what family I can when I can get it. We are blessed two of the boys live here in NC with us. DS#1 is in OK but he due to get out in July or August of next year (09) .
