As I type this I am almost afraid to guess what we might face in 2009. Other than planting a garden and buying as much of the basics as I can afford I have no game plan yet. I can't seem to bring myself to put all of this doom and gloom on paper. Ok so I am spending these last few days of 2008 as an ostrich call it the holiday blues.
What is your game plan for 2009?

Well.
Hard question to answer.
I think that what you have now may be what you have ...................... now it's time to watch, listen, and prepare yourself mentally and spiritually for the unexpected.
From all directions - Financial, cultural, political, and natural - 2009 looks really bleak.
Done what I could do, now wait and watch.

My goals for this year are to cook from scratch more and get more dry storage. Also to try to keep my head down, my powder dry and try not to loose my mind

Well, I brought a ton or two of dry food stuffs with me, back to Texas, still need to get a load of ammo down here..but I have more in the truck then most people have so....
Food and security, guess if it comes it comes..I'm as ready as I can be until I get my cabin built and make another trip north to haul another load down....
Also I need to set up a stash up there in case it comes while I'm there for the summer...
My truck has 110 gal fuel supply so I guess with some 5 gal cans I could make it back to here... if I drove at 60 mph I could make it here on the tank fuel...slow is a good thing if your sliping thru the country avoiding ppl as much as possable...
need shelter tho and fast...course I has the cave.,.. but it's hard to keep warm...propane is costly
guess it will work out..

Plans?? Now I gotta plan?? Ok. I'll stash what I can, stock up when I can and fly by the seat of my pants. (Instinct is underrated.)Other then that, I'm with Kitty. I'm gonna do my darnedest to get through the whole year without any serious mental meltdowns. (The fact that I'm here at all kinda proves just how close to the edge of insanity I am, don't it...?)

Babe, you've been walking on that edge forever.... and don't worry, If it come to it I'll drag yawl down here.. lessn ya wanna starve and freeze ....I have a cold knot in my gut that things are going to go down hill ..soon, how soon? d**ned if I know...but I'd say in the next year, two at the outside....how bad is anybodys guess..but for those who have lost jobs it's shtf time right now..the rest of us are close to the edge ourselves... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! ahhahaahahhaah

I see I am not the only one suffering from holiday blues We have actually come up with a two year plan. The land we want in Yadkin County just north of Kitty wont be ours until December/January. We drug our feet because we were not sure what to do and the current owner leased the land to a farmer for another year. The only way we could get it was to agree to honor the lease. Plus our middle son has 4 semesters left in college (as y'all know he gets free tuition because we work for Campbell and can't loose that) Any on with the plans...so 2009 will be spent putting away as must staple foods as we possibly can, procuring a couple of guns and ammo. Goats will arrive some time this month or in February. Hoping to get a couple of females that are already bred. Chickens will arrive in February or March. We will also be collecting stuff for trellises and other tools needed to plant grape vines, blueberry bushes and strawberries. 2010 is the slave labor year. Soil test will be done as soon as we close on the land. We will then feed the soil plow it and install trellises and ground cover. We will be putting up a two story storage building and converting it into a livable cabin. We will be spending vacations, weekends and holidays in Yadkinville so we will live in the storage building/cabin until we get the vineyard and berry farm planted. Our plans are to move up there permanently the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. Things will be slow going the vineyard and berry farm because they will be a work in progress for several years. We are doing this on a cash only basis. We do not want to get in debt. When we move the only thing we will have left is a stupid student loan and we still have 50 years left on it OK it is only 25 years our goal is to have it paid off in a few more years. We are going to stay hunkered down and keep a low profile during 2009 and probably 2010. We will have to wait and see what the great one will do. Like you guys we are watching not only politics, but the financial market, as well as cultural. Here in this area we could be considered the minority so if things go south we are really going to have to duck and hide. Our oldest will be home sometime this year we are not sure if it will be March or July. When Baby Boy reported to his reserve unit he heard rumor they would be headed to Afghanistan in August for 13 months. Not what I wanted to hear but we knew it was a big possibility since the shift from Iraq to Afghanistan is going on.
