How to Make a Drop Spindle
Supplies: dowel rod saw sandpaper wooden truck wheel small cup hook screw heavy duty glue
Cut the dowel rod with a saw. The typical length is between nine and 12 inches. Sand the cut end of the dowel. Sand down the entire dowel to be sure it is smooth. Slide the wooden wheel onto the dowel. For a bottom whirl drop spindle place the wheel and inch and a half from the bottom of the dowel. For a top whirl spindle, place the wheel two or three inches from the top of the dowel. When buying the dowel, be sure it is big enough to fit securely on the wheel.
Screw the cup hook into the tip of the dowel. Make sure that the hook is paced at the center of the dowel rod so that the spindle has good balance. Secure the cup hook and wheel with glue. Make sure non of the glue leaks beyond the edges of either. Decorate the drop spindle however desired.
