I read this at another site, I hope it is true. Dear Mr. Swan, Thank you for your email regarding HB 3359. As you may know, I was not a cosponsor of this legislation. I understand that the sponsor of this bill introduced the idea at the request of law enforcement agencies across the State. The bill died in committee last year, and will not be considered this session. A very user friendly website for checking out the status of a bill is www.washigtonvotes.org. Legislators come to Olympia to introduce ideas that they believe are worthy of discussion. Advocacy groups, such as the law enforcement community, often bring ideas to us they believe will assist them in performing their jobs. The introduction and co-sponsorship of a bill actually only supports the notion that something ought to be discussed, not that it will --- or even should --- become law. Before a bill is voted on and becomes law it must pass through a strenuous process, including several hearings as well as public testimony. HB 3359 was introduced and referred to the Judiciary Committee early last year, and has received no further consideration. The bill is old news and dead. Please feel free to check with me regarding any other bills that concern you. Thank you for your input. I will remember your concerns should the issue arise again. Sincerely, Representative Dawn Morrell Sidecar
